MLB AT FIELD OF DREAMS
RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 2021
Construction began on a Major League Baseball regulation field and stadium in August 2019 with a maximum capacity of 8,000 to host the first-ever regular-season Major League Baseball game in Iowa originally set to feature the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox Thursday, August 13, 2020. With the change in structure of the 2020 MLB season due to the Coronavirus pandemic, The Yankees were replaced with the St. Louis Cardinals to play the White Sox.
Due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, the MLB at Field of Dreams presented by GEICO has been postponed to 2021, with an official date of Thursday, August 12. It has been confirmed that the original matchup for the game will be honored between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.
The White Sox will be the home in the matchup because of their role in the 1989 Field of Dreams movie, in which the ghosts of “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and other members of the 1919 Black Sox play on the diamond in the Iowa cornfield.
